Where to Eat and Drink in Puerto Escondido (My Favorites So Far)
After traveling extensively for over 15 years, I’ve learned that everyone is a different type of traveler – some prioritize shopping, cultural experiences, rigid schedules, etc. And don’t get me wrong, I love a taste of those as well, but as I’ve gotten older and everything aches a bit more the longer I am on my feet, I realized that my priorities on vacation are resting, eating, drinking, and laying around in various locations (beaches, pools, boats, etc.).
I’ve been to Puerto Escondido a bunch over the past two years and while most of the meals I eat are prepared by the chefs in the villas my friends and I rent (stg), I will still venture out to try other restaurants, bars, and cafes in the area to terrorize them with my presence.
So if you’re in Puerto Escondido and are looking for some great spots to eat, here are my current faves. This is a working doc and I will update this the more I go! (Specifically, in November in between our Mazunte and Puerto Escondido Pilates retreats, more info if you wanna join here).
Cafes & Breakfast Spots
Guiño Café — I went to this spot multiple times! It’s mostly to-go, but there are a few cute sit-down spots if you're not in a rush.
Dulce Tierra Zicatela — Healthy bowls and good coffee! Not too big so great for 1-2 friends or for a quick meal to-go. After looking at their insta, it appears they have multiple locations, I went to the one in Zicatela :)
Café Elephant Garden — Sit-down cafe with healthy juices, bowls, smoothies, etc. Most of their seating is in a garden, it’s so cute. This was a great option for 5 girls that had done nothing but drink and eat tacos for 5 days. One green meal cancels all of that out, right?
Lunch & Dinner
Fish Shack La Punta – This spot is recommended to everyone for a reason! Located in La Punta, this spot is in an alleyway and truly has the best fish tacos ever.
I just read however they had a fire this year so they are temporarily closed but plan to reopen October 2026! Go support!
One of the many delicious courses we had at Glou Glou during the tasting menu
And of course a wine is best paired with mezcal!
Glou Glou - My friends made a last minute reservation here and boy was this the right call!! It’s located on the rooftop of Casa To, a super cute hotel/airbnb you’ve definitely seen if you searched for stays in Puerto Escondido. The restaurant is… sexy? Like you feel hotter being there. They have a natural wine selection and an option for a tasting menu, which we opted for. It was soooo good and the vibes were just immaculate. This is my new fave restaurant in Puerto Escondido. Oh, and it’s also in the Michelin Guide 2026. Get a reservation!
the lighting was so good here had to snap some pics!!
idk how to use my camera but the pics always turn out sooo good
Pacifica Radio – Located in the middle of Zicatela, this restaurant / sound lounge is also another sexy restaurant that’s great for a date night or a night out with your girls where you all flirt with the chef when he comes out to greet your table. Food is delicious – we went for dinner but their breakfast menu also looks great!
Drinks & Going Out
my fave pilates instructor / friend, sav loved the boneyard (so did mily)
supporting my local favorite dive bar!!
The Boneyard - My favorite bar in Puerto Escondido and the bar I always bring people to. It’s owned by the coolest woman ever, there’s a skate bowl in the middle, they serve amazing pizza, there’s also a merch shop and a tattoo studio. It really has everything you could ever want in a bar. They also have DJs some nights! Make sure you support and buy some merch to take home.
El Toro y La Palmera - This is a great bar to go to late night; we were told it’s where the bartenders go when their shift is over. Great cocktails and lots of dogs and people smoking outside. I loved this bar.
Juana Mezcala - When looking this place up it appears they also serve food but I only remember heavily drinking here and maybe doing karaoke?
Tonal Bar — This little cocktail bar was a favorite among my friends! Right on the main street in La Punta. Haven’t tried it myself but I trust this groups’ recs with my life.
Ovni Vino — The sommelier, Gaby, from Glou Glou opened up this natural wine bar and it is soooo cute! They play all vinyl there. Great to go on a date, bring a friend, or to buy a bottle from to drink on the street while you wait for your taxi because you showed up to the bar 5 minutes until close.
This list will continue to grow as I continue to drink all over Mexico, specifically Puerto Escondido. Which spot should I try next?
